Yesterday I attended the Annie’s List luncheon in Dallas. I attended not only as a participant, but also to sign and sell books.
I found myself seated next to a young woman who was also signing and selling her new book on breast feeding. The entire book was dedicated to the art of pumping breasts after returning to work. The author was especially focused on the need to pump while taking global trips away from her child.
Evolution of the Feminine Mystique, is a recognition of the value of all women, and an insistence of being supportive of other mothers who make choices different than our own. I did my best to be be respectful, and actually bought one of her books, even if I am long past the period in my life that would have included the need to breast feed. However it was hard to see the mother of two young children who had a job that required her to travel out of the country on a regular basis leaving her two young children in the care of someone else.
